The Piquette 2020
Pinot Meunier｜Sonoma Mountain
This 100% Pinot Meunier hails from the esteemed Van der Kamp vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. Traditionally a "piquette" wine is a light-bodied and easy-drinking, low-ABV red that's fruit-forward, chillable, and crazily food friendly. Samantha Sheehan and Une Femme have teamed up to create this piquette as a natural, fresh holiday sipper.
This wine's ruby red color comes from the second pressing of 100% organic meunier (one of the three famous grapes of Champagne) from the beautiful Van Der Kamp vineyards of Sonoma Mountain, and was made by Samantha Sheehan, one of our favorite winemakers in California.
Piquette is an age-old style of winemaking that farm hands have been making for generations. Invented as a way to use skins, stems, and pulp leftover from a grape’s first pressing in winemaking, piquette uses that pomace for a second pressing. (Almost like the second dip of a tea bag. True upcycling.)
The Piquette is crafted in direct response to the California wildfires that ravaged wine country this August and September. A portion of proceeds from every bottle sold is donated to TreeSisters, an international nonprofit organization with the mission to rapidly accelerate tropical reforestation by inspiring and channeling women's leadership into local and global action.
For every bottle sold, a tree will be planted to create a distributed forest, affectionately known as the Une Femme Forest. Fewer than 2,000 bottles of this vintage were made and it’s meant to be enjoyed now, with someone you love.
