Turley, "Turley Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Cabernet Sauvignon｜Napa Valley
Is this Turley's best Cabernet yet? The unanimous answer seems to be a resounding yes!
Most readers recognize this super-limited offering and will be going straight to securing their allocation. Founded in 1993, Turley is one of the most in-demand labels, specializing in old-vine creations from some of California’s most cherished “heritage” sites; some of the vineyards they source date back to the mid-1800s!
The vines for this bottling come from their estate vineyards on the eastern border of the property in the heart of Napa, about equidistant from St. Helena and Calistoga. Planted in 1989, the vineyard actually predates the founding of the estate by Larry Turley in 1993. Farming is Certified Organic, harvesting is by hand, and fermentations are all natural, using ambient yeast. With the eminently talented Tegan Passalacqua at the helm, the wines have never been better. Indeed the critics seem to agree – each successive vintage reaches higher and higher. This 2019 has garnered the highest score yet, with Vinous Media giving it 94 points:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Turley Estate is the most accessible of the Turley Cabernets. It shows all the raciness that is such a signature of the wines from St. Helena's Northern Corridor, with terrific presence, aromatic lift and balance. Expressive floral and red-toned fruit accents reappear on the finish. The 2019 should drink well with just a few years in bottle."
Never for the faint of heart, this is a bold, classic representation of the best Napa has to offer. It still remains a modest under-$100 value among a sea of three-figure Cabs out there, which should definitely appreciate as an investment. And every year we fight and scramble for our minuscule allocation, so this is your one and only shot. When it’s gone, it’s gone!
