Tessier Winery “Soul Love" Red Blend MV
Another lovely gem from the one and only Kristie Tacey! I fell across her wines while running the beverage program at Lazy Bear in San Francisco some five years ago, where we poured a bevy of her wines with a nightly nine-course pairing menu. She's been making standout wines for more than a decade and is part of the vanguard for the natural wine movement, long before it even had a name. She makes wine in an entirely hands-off fashion, allowing the terroir to speak for itself.
This "Soul Love" red blend, infused with a dose of Riesling, is inspired by David Bowie's second track from Ziggy Stardust and, like Bowie's art, defies classification.
To begin, this is a multi-vintage blend of both white and red grapes, comprising 2019 and 2020. Some 50% Riesling from the 2020 vintage and 25% each Trousseau and Mourvèdre from 2019. All sustainably/organically farmed grapes, foot-stomped, and fermented naturally, it's a light and fun, magenta-hued delight to enjoy with a slight chill on it.
Tropical notes of bright red and pink fruits, violets, rosewater, and citrus peel with bright, lip-smacking acidity and a clean, fresh finish.
Throw it on ice or in the fridge for 20-30 minutes before cracking; it's a conversation starter, a palate-awakener, and a lovely, all-natural pre-holiday tipple with low alcohol and no intervention. Lots of fun, all-too-drinkable and so much fun!
