Saracina "Skid Row Vineyard" Malbec 2017

Malbec|Mendocino County

Originally from Bordeaux and southwest France, Malbec has found its way from Argentina to California. Saracina's single-vineyard Malbec proves once again Mendocino is a world-class region for varieties such as this.

Founded by Patty Rock and John Fetzer, Saracina has produced exemplary wines near Hopland in Mendocino, quickly becoming known not only for their dedication to environmental sustainability but their iconic wines, produce, honey, and olive oil.

The "Skid Row" vineyard is marked by its warm microclimate and black clay, gravelly soils – a trait shared by Bordeaux, Malbec's spiritual home. They produce an outstandingly balanced yet intense wine without harvesting at ultra-ripe levels or over-oaking. The wine is fermented from native yeasts and aged in French oak, only 10% of which is new.

The result is rich blackcurrant jam, cassis, velvety texture, espresso, cocoa, and LOADS of spice. And amazingly, the wine clocks in at only 13.5% abv – an almost unheard-of feat in California.

This wine has it all: spice, heady fruit, tannin, and longevity, all without coming across as overripe or heavy-handed. Free shipping on six!
