Domaine René Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin "La Justice" 2015

Pinot Noir|Burgundy, France

Since 1910, the Bouvier domaine has crafted fine, long-lived Côte de Nuits Burgundy from their organically-farmed holdings totaling a mere 12 hectares. Today the estate is directed by Bernard Bouvier, consistently turning out supple, classic Burgundy.

I've followed this estate for years and enjoyed vintage after vintage of their Gevrey. This bottling from the "La Justice" vineyard amounts to less than two hundred cases a year; the heroic 2015 vintage is just now starting to come into its own, showing a full array of gorgeous Pinot characteristics.

From the first pull of the cork it shows candied dark fruit, fall spice, black tea, incense, mossy soil, and cassis liqueur. Its half-decade maturity renders it supple, silky, and incredibly refined. A hint of earthy "sous-bois" (that beautiful French term for woodsiness) is starting to peek out.

That's what 2015 red Burgundy is all about – structured, velvety, and exotically spiced. This Pinot is just getting started; it drinks beautifully after an hour's decanting and will only get better with age. What's more, you won't find this limited Pinot available anywhere else in the country. Stash some in your cellar and reap the rewards now and over the next decade!
