Carlo and Dante Mondavi, Robert Mondavi's grandsons, formed the RAEN project in 2013 and consistently produce some of the most sought-after, blue-chip Pinot Noir from the rugged, extreme western end of Sonoma Coast, long considered the "true" Sonoma Coast by aficionados.
The stars align in this cuvée, thanks in no small part to the Mondavis' dedication to organic farming, minimalist "natural" winemaking, and of course the marine soils and extreme geography of the cool, windswept Sonoma Coast. This climate preserves acidity and creates a long, cool ripening season for supreme balance. Not overripe or overly oaked, these wines are true products of the land and only get better with every vintage.
James Suckling describes the wine thusly in his 97-point review:
“The aromas of strawberry and raspberry with conifer and hints of bark are impressive. Full-bodied, but so reserved and linear with super long, tightened tannins that melt into the wine. 100% whole cluster. Drinkable now, but much better to wait a year or three.”
