Presqu'ile Rosé of Pinot Noir 2019

Santa Maria Valley

From the prestigious family-owned Presqu’ile estate in Santa Barbara, we bring you one of the finest rosés the season will see, at an incredible price you won’t find anywhere else in the country.

Full of red and pink summer fruits of wild strawberry, raspberry, rosewater, and white tea this is a cool, fresh, lip-smacking dry rosé to quench your thirst on the patio, the pool, or as a festive bottle with brunch. You can’t go wrong paired with oysters and red-onion mignonette or a creamy farmer’s cheese omelette on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Comprising three generations, this is a family affair throughout. When the Murphy family sought to found a winery they were tenacious in finding just the right place to put down roots, so to speak. The search led the Murphys across the western seaboard, from northern Oregon, into the Russian River Valley, and finally the Santa Maria Valley, the second-oldest delineated wine region in California after Napa Valley. Wedged between mountains to the north and south, the Santa Maria river naturally draws in frigid ocean air, enshrouding the vines in cooling fog and sea breezes – the average temps at the Presqu’ile estate are under 60 degrees, making it one of the cooler sites around. This freshness translates to the finished wine – lively, mouthwatering acid and profound floral notes are its hallmarks.

The term Presqu'ile comes from French Creole; loosely translated, it’s a peninsula – literally an “almost-island.” The name is an ode to their tight-knit family gathering place in Louisiana which was sadly lost to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and to the idea that their estate vineyards are an “island” of outstanding Pinot in the already-prestigious Santa Maria Valley subregion of Santa Barbara.

Fully sustainable to the point of obsessiveness, the solar-powered winery is built into the hill, using gravity to naturally shepherd the juice into stainless steel without the use of pumps, where it’s fermented from native yeasts and bottled using only light filtration. The property does indeed seem like an island, adjacent to the river and a haven of exceptional wine.

As they put it, this is “a rosé with gravitas” – indeed a serious, yet lively and incredibly affordable bottle to brighten your day and enhance the summer vibes. Enjoy!
