Poggio Nibbiale Morellino di Scansano 2017

Sangiovese: with its popularity and drinkability, could it be the new Pinot Noir? We've nearly sold out of every Sangiovese offering we've put forth, so we're keeping the party going with today's value-driven, highly enjoyable bottling from the organically-farmed vineyards of the Buchheim family in the village of Scansano in southern Tuscany.

Their minuscule 11 hectares of vines are farmed as part of a thriving, multifaceted ecosystem; the red kite bird-of-prey on the label pays homage to the wildlife present in their region. Zero herbicides or chemicals are used and everything is done by hand.

Morellino is the synonym for Sangiovese in this region; its similarities with morello cherries is no coincidence – the style of wine produced here is characterized by sour cherries, rose petals, and a dusty earthiness, which perfectly describe this wine. Cut red-flowers, cocoa-nib earthiness, and soft, elegant tannins round out this fragrant Tuscan red.

They cellar the wines deep in a restored vault dating from the 13th century, buried underneath the San Giovanni Batista church in the village of Scansano.

It doesn't get much better than this for everyday enjoyable Sangiovese from 100% organically-farmed vineyards!
