Le Dôme, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2014
Cabernet Blend｜Bordeaux, France
Jonathan Maltus is the mind behind Le Dôme, one of the hottest "garagiste" cult wines in all of Bordeaux, dare we say the world. The vineyards are spitting distance to Château Angelus in Saint-Émilion, also one of the most collectible in Bordeaux. Maltus is one of those "Midas Touch" vignerons; he purchased the property in 1996 and ever since Le Dôme has skyrocketed into the stratosphere. This super tiny parcel of beautiful 2014 is an absolute blue-chip addition to your cellar.
Le Dôme's vineyards are predominantly Cabernet Franc, with Merlot rounding it out. For Bordeaux insiders, you'll already know 2014 is a lovely little "sleeper" vintage that received less fame than 2015 but is every bit as notable, perhaps more. Want scores? Every vintage hits the highest marks, including 96 points from Wine Enthusiast and 95 from Decanter, who calls it "possibly the most elegant and poised Le Dôme to date."
Almost impossible to find stateside, eminently collectible, superbly crafted. Grab what you can now and sit on it until 2030 before you open it; you won't regret it!
