Cantina Kurtatsch "AMOS" Bianco 2016
White Blend｜Alto Adige
Cantina Kurtatsch is one of our favorite sites in northern Italy. Their estate, perched high up in the mountains of Alto Adige bordering Austria, blends Italian wine romance with Austrian mountain sensibility. The wines, cuisine, language, even its architecture straddle both regions and inform one another. The glacial mountain soils here absorb sunshine and radiate back at the ripening grapes, all the while buffered by mountainous winds that keep the grapes healthy and dry.
This is their top tier white, a selection of the finest grapes from their highest-elevation vineyards topping out at over 3000 feet: 40% Pinot Bianco, 20% Pinot Grigio, 15% Kerner, 10% Chardonnay, 10% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Müller-Thurgau.
As the esteemed Kerin O'Keefe writes in Wine Enthusiast's 91-point review, "this rounded, structured white offers aromas of white and yellow stone fruit, citrus and crushed stone. The full-bodied palate shows elegance and focus, delivering ripe apricot, creamy yellow apple and juicy grapefruit alongside crushed herbs and graphite."
