Grieve Family "Double Eagle" Red 2014
Bordeaux Blend｜Napa Valley
From the famed Grieve Family Winery in Napa, we bring you their prestige "Double Eagle" red, a cuvée based on the noble Bordeaux varieties of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot to fill it out.
Ideally situated in the Lovall Valley at the southernmost point in the Mayacamas range, you actually have to drive into Sonoma to access the valley. Ocean breezes blow through the gap in the range and settle here, providing a cooling influence and longer, slower ripening. Bordeaux grapes thrive in these gravelly soils and cooler microclimate.
The winemaking diverges from the norm, in that its fermented in equal parts French oak, stainless steel, and cement egg, blending traditional Napa methods with more ancient methods, complemented by organic farming and totally natural fermentations throughout. Make no mistake, however, that this is prestige Napa at its finest: ground espresso, blackberry jam, cigar, baking spice, and lavender. Dusty earth, fine grained tannins gobs of layered blue-black fruits.
We love our mature California reds here, and this is a wonderful find at a fraction of its otherwise sky-high price tag of $90+. We're offering free shipping on three bottles to boot – happy drinking!
