Château Tour des Gendres "La Vigne d'Albert" 2018
Cabernet-Merlot Blend｜Bergerac, Bordeaux
While most growers tend to focus on the more common "Bordeaux" family of grapes in Bergerac, Tour des Gendres makes this cuvée from a heritage blend of obscure varieties, including Mérille (a rare grape in France), Cabernet Sauvignon, Fer, and Malbec. It's a total "fruit salad" of the indigenous Bordeaux grapes grown in Bergerac.
Totally organic, zero sulfur, and naturally fermented, the Château's aim is to make wine as it was made centuries before. All of these rare grapes grow together in the vineyard their grandfather planted in the 1960s, simply for their own use at the farm and on the table! In their efforts to preserve these ancient varieties, they have ended up stewarding these rare, historical grapes that are quickly becoming more and more hard to find. Lucky us!
It's a wine that's both deep flavored and easy drinking. Baker's chocolate, fig jam, firewood, black olive, and sweet plum fill out the nose with deep, concentrated, and smoky fruit on the palate.
Simply put: an incredibly interesting, immensely satisfying, natural red at a great value!
