Frédéric Magnien, Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut MV

Pinot Noir|Burgundy, France

A beautiful, crazy-affordable blanc de noirs sparkling Burgundy from Freddy Magnien, one of our favorite Burgundy maisons in the game.

Five generations of the Magnien family have been producing classic Burgundy. Frédéric is the newest generation to do it, having returned to Burgundy after stints in Australia and California, where he worked with Josh Jensen at his famed Calera winery, among others.

For those new to the term, "crémant" is the category for French sparkling wine made in the traditional "Champagne" method, outside of the Champagne region itself. The takeaway: this ultra-organic, boutique sparkling wine embodies all that quality at a fraction of the price.

Revel in the fresh and pure flavors of this 100% Pinot Noir blanc de noirs bubbly, with aromas of orchard fruits, white raspberry, cut flowers, and a chalky, stony, softly-fruited flavor on the silken bubbly finish. It's an "extra brut," so the finish is bone dry, uber-clean, and refreshing.

The Pinot Noir is pressed whole cluster into stainless steel and fermented from native yeasts before getting the méthode traditionelle capturing of the bubbles. In the vineyards, the farming is all organic and biodynamic, according to the lunar cycle; some plots are certified organic, others simply farming naturally as they have been for centuries.

Magnien's wines are majestic, natural creations and honest expression of the land. I wager you won't find a better, more finely-crafted sparkler for the money. Enjoy!
