Dominio de Pingus, "Flor de Pingus" Ribera del Duero 2008
Tempranillo|Ribera del Duero, Spain
From Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, the Pingus estate in Ribera del Duero, Spain, produces some of the world's most coveted reds on par with first-growth Bordeaux or Grand Cru Burgundy.
The "Flor de Pingus" is their "second wine," produced from the same estate, and consistently gets rave reviews across the board, yet costs but a fraction of Pingus itself (a bottle of Dominio de Pingus will set you back $700-plus)!
Vinous Media describes the 2008 Flor de Pingus thusly:
Vibrant purple. Energetic, nuanced aromas of raspberry, cherry, Asian spices, cocoa powder and rose, plus a hint of blood orange. Compellingly silky and sweet on entry, then vibrant and delineated in the mid-palate, with a floral quality accenting the flavors of crushed red berries and blood orange. The wine's pungent minerality gives a weightless impression to the long, spicy finish.
Stained label. Excellent fill level.
