Domaine Pfister Pinot Noir 2005
Pinot Noir｜Alsace, France
Burgundy lovers take note. A rare look at a complex, silky smooth Pinot Noir from Alsace, in the north-eastern pocket of France.
As soon as you pull the cork the aromas start to expand out of the bottle. Gorgeous garnet rim in the glass; on the nose it has immediate appeal and complexity. Brooding notes of roses, smoked meat, coffee, and red forest fruits.
The palate is vibrant, with an electric tartness and a core of crunchy red fruit. Mulberry, savory spices, leather, and silky tannins abound on the palate. What to pair? Think grilled, smoked, or aged meats; charcuterie and funky cheeses come to mind. This wine can hold its own next to any Burgundian Pinot Noir at twice the price.
Founded in 1780, this iconic house in Alsace is known for naturally made Riesling from Grand Cru vineyards. Pinot Noir is less common to see from this idyllic corner of France.
