Domaine Jean Tardy "La Place" Fixin 2015
Pinot Noir｜Burgundy, France
Insider Burgundy from a "winemaker's winemaker" in Fixin, Côte de Nuits!
The Tardy family's wine history begins in the 1920s, with Victor Tardy, who worked for Domaine Camuzet (of four-figure Méo-Camuzet fame). Through the '60s, the family acquired vines from the Camuzet estate under a post-WWI vineyard sharing system known as métayage. Today they own some of the most prestigious land in Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, and Nuits-St-Georges.
Their "La Place" site in Fixin (feek-SAHN) lies just off the route de grand cru and borders some seriously fine real estate. On a higher elevation slope, riddled with prehistoric limestone, La Place is a postage stamp-sized vineyard barely larger than a regulation basketball court. High density planting makes for concentrated flavors, powerful tannins, and effusive aromas. The supple, generous 2015 vintage shows through brightly here, giving immediate drinking pleasure but will surely age for another decade easily. Just a beautiful wine!
Stephen Tanzer describes the wine: "Pungent aromas of blackberry, menthol, licorice and violet. Intense, juicy and penetrating."
You won't find this beauty anywhere else, and certainly not at our jaw-dropping price well below other vintages. With perfect provenance to boot – we acquired this directly from the importer, stored climate-controlled its entire life and in perfect condition. Enjoy!
