Domaine Dubois Savigny-les-Beaune Blanc 2016
Just a few remain!
Gorgeous white Burgundy from a micro-producer in Savigny-les-Beaune!
Domaine Bernard Dubois is a multi-generational family domaine in the charming hamlet of Chorey-les-Beaune. They farm a mere seven hectares in only two appellations: Chorey and nearby Savigny-les-Beaune, at higher altitudes, all sustainably, and ferment their wines from natural yeasts, exclusively in old French oak. Purity of flavor runs through their limited production of bottlings. Savigny-les-Beaune is known mostly as a red appellation; it’s rare to find Chardonnay planted here and even more rare to find such a crazy price-quality ratio as this.
In the glass, it shows delicately perfumed Bosc pear and fresh apple notes, with hints of soft chamomile flowers and mineral oil. Just for fun, we tasted this wine at room temp to get a full sense of its texture – in this context there’s very little room for flaws to hide. And this wine shined – those crunchy pear and apple flavors came through gloriously, perfectly straddling the line between gentle richness and freshness, with honeysuckle, hazelnut, and a refreshing mineral finish.
In the age of stratospheric Burgundy prices, it's nearly a miracle to run across any wine under $50/bottle, let alone a village level bottling – you’re more likely to see a general “Bourgogne” appellation at this price.
Make no mistake – the juice in the bottle isn’t going anywhere, and will continue to evolve splendidly for another 3-5 years in your cellar. 2016 was a standout year in the Cote d’Or, with quality that still reaps rewards today. Sadly, quantities were down a shocking 30-40% across the region, reinforcing our bafflement at its price!I can't say it enough – there's so much value to be had here I literally had to double check the numbers from the importer – sustainably farmed vineyards, all domaine (estate) fruit, minuscule production, and through-the-roof demand for Burgundy all dictate that this bottle should easily be $40/bottle or more! Complimentary shipping on six bottles, but I seriously recommend grabbing 12 or more to enjoy now and over the next three years!
