Domaine de Chevillard Pinot Noir 2016
Savoie Pinot Noir? Yes! We're in the mood for fresh, cool, reds as summer approaches. Take note of this alpine region – we won't be the first to say this is the new "it" region in France for fans of natural cool-climate alpine wines.
Matthieu Goury, the winemaker for this estate, is a young phenom and vanguard for the natural wine movement. His wines are pure, approachable, and all organic. Everything is done by hand, even using gravity to eschew use of pumps and mechanization at the estate.
This is classic cool-climate Pinot Noir. Lots of floral bouquet notes, with an herbal cranberry note and fresh-cut flowers on the nose. The palate is sweet fruit, high acid, and supple, suave tannins with every sip. Full of potpourri, raspberry, and spice on the finish. Delicious Pinot. We'll even gamble that fans of Russian River Pinot will find this satisfying. No wonder, considering how lauded the 2016 vintage is turning out to be.
High-quality French Pinot Noir is hard to come by under $40 – we've added free shipping on four bottles to make it even sweeter.
