Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 2-Bottle Collector's Set
Volcanic Hill & Gravelly Meadow｜Diamond Mountain, Napa Valley
Direct from the winery, an exclusive offer on one of California's most enduring and iconic estates in history – at the best price you'll find anywhere!
Founded by Al and Adelle "Boots" Brounstein in 1968, Diamond Creek was the first California winery dedicated to making 100% Cabernet wines and among the first to identify and separate their vineyards by soil type. This offer features two of those vineyard selections: Gravelly Meadow and Volcanic Hill. Intensely concentrated fruit, mineral grit, and unadulterated expression of mountain terroir.
There's too much history here for one page – to plant the vineyards, Brounstein smuggled Cabernet cuttings in a suitcase, acquired from First-Growth Châteaux in Bordeaux, in his own plane via Tijuana, likely spawning the term "suitcase clone," on the advice from Louis Martini and André Tchelistcheff, legends in their own time. Today their wines hold their value extraordinarily and often fetch high three-figure prices at auction.
In a non-pandemic world we would maybe have access to just one of these vineyards; the lion's share goes to their wait-list membership and restaurant allocations. Back in my restaurant days I would email Boots directly to acquire my yearly allotment. Sadly, she passed away in 2019 and the property was sold to the Roederer estate the year after; these bottles represent some of the last from the glory days of the Brounsteins' steadfast guidance.
As is the case with wines of this caliber, it's wound super tight at this young age – if you enjoy now decant for at least 3-4 hours. In the cellar it will gracefully age for two to three decades with ease. I've had these Cabs going back to the '70s; they were utterly transcendent experiences.
Consistently in Wine & Spirits Magazine "Top 100" wines of the world and with innumerable top scores from all the major critics, there is no doubt that this is among the bluest of the blue-chip, investment-grade wines of all time. You will absolutely not find a better price, including free shipping, anywhere else in the world.
