Christoph Hoch "Rosé Rurale" Petillant Naturel MV
Zweigelt Blend｜Kremstal, Austria
"Pet-Nat," short for pétillant naturel, is a sparkling wine made by carrying the first fermentation through in the bottle, rather than two separate fermentations (à-la the Champagne method).
This fun little screwcap bubbly comes from Christoph Hoch, a "young gun" winemaker out of Kremstal, Austria. In addition to fantastic Grüner Veltliner and other classics, he crafts this take on sparkling rosé from a blend of the indigenous red grapes Zweigelt and St. Laurent.
A light and whimsical take on the grapes, it shows bright raspberry, sweet herbs (think rosemary and Thai basil), orange peel, cherry pit, and strawberry candy. All natural, dry and bright, with a slight hint of tannin from the red grapes. Meant for a sunny day at the beach, the park, or early evening apéritif hour!
