Domaine Cherrier Père et Fils "La Croix Poignant" Sancerre 2020
Sauvignon Blanc｜Loire, France
Spine-tingling, lightning fresh Sancerre from the wonderful Cherrier family! If you love racy and brisk, saline and minerally fresh Sauv Blanc then don’t miss this stunning, elegant bottling.
This is their single vineyard “La Croix Poignant,” from the village of Chadoux in Sancerre. Composed of the unique “Terres Blanches” limestone soil and pockets of flint, the soils here are so white that they look like freshly driven snow. It’s a rare soil and cherished for the combination of high acid and full, sharp-edged citrus fruit the soil imparts.
With a saline, oyster-shell bite, the wine just shocks the senses with its bright minerals, guava, lime peel, grapefruit, and apricot pit-fruit. Smoky, pithy, aromatic, and brisk, this is a wine you should go long on – pair with cold-water oysters and fall in love!
Domaine Cherrier is a multi-generation family known for just this style. Founded in 1927 by Pierre Cherrier, today it’s run by his two sons François and Jean-Marie Cherrier. This 2020 is fresh off the boat and just BURSTING with that unique Sancerrois character that you just don’t find anywhere else in the world.
Only a few dozen cases make it stateside every year. We had to scramble for our meager allocation this year, so stock up while you can!
