Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac 1994
Cabernet Blend｜Bordeaux, France
A small parcel of perfectly aged Bordeaux with impeccable provenance!
This comes from a private cellar, purchased direct from the importer over two decades ago, quietly and perfectly stored to this day.
For those in the know, this château needs no introduction. Their 2016 recently received a perfect 100-point score and the château's star continues to rise. It's one of the most classically-styled, collectible, consistently overdelivering estates on the left bank. This 1994 is drinking so well now, with a cornucopia of burnished incense, spice, savory plum and dry blackcurrant notes. The palate is smoky, fragrant, and as polished as it gets. If you enjoy mature Bordeaux or looking for a birth-year, anniversary, or other special-occasion bottle this is it!
Since 1975, Alfred Tesseron has led the estate and is arguably one of the most talented vignerons in France. Among his many contributions, he made the stunningly forward-thinking choice to move toward all organic, natural farming and winemaking, eschewing any chemical or artificial inputs anywhere. In 2010 the château was certified biodynamic, the first estate in Bordeaux to do so.
With rare and collectible wines with significant age, it's inevitable to see some scuffed labels and lower fill levels. Not here! The labels, capsules, and fill levels are all superb. This is just about the most well-stored parcel that's come across our desk in quit a while, priced at well below the best price you can find anywhere in the world!
