Château du Seuil "Héritage du Seuil" Graves Rouge 2010
Cabernet Blend｜Graves, Bordeaux
Located on the "left bank" of the Gironde river in Bordeaux, Château du Seuil is a family affair, run by Nicola and Sean Allison, making Ecocert-certified organic Bordeaux from the rocky, gravelly soils of their estate in the bucolic hamlet of Cérons, in Graves.
Centuries ago, the Dutch drained the swamps of what is now Bordeaux, exposing millennia-old giant river stones, which just so happen to be ideal for the Cabernet Sauvignon vines that have grown here since. Indeed the very name of the region – Graves – references these gravel soils.
This "Héritage" cuvée is their flagship red, comprised of the oldest vines and the top-most quality fruit. The pristine fruit is treated accordingly, fermented beginning to end in French oak using natural yeasts. The result is a wine full of heady blue fruits, dark plum, blackcurrant, leather, black olive, and cigar smoke.
At over a decade of bottle age from one the best vintages of the century, this claret is perfect now but will doubtlessly continue to age for another decade. Enjoy!
