Château d'Arce Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2015
From owners Hélène Garcin and Patrice Lévèque, a powerhouse couple who, in addition to this Château, own the epic Clos l'Eglise in Pomerol.
Before it was known for its fine right-bank claret, this was the site of the Battle of Castillon, marking an end to the Hundred Years' War and returning control of the region back over to the French. Today, it's known not only as a source of affordable, classically-styled Bordeaux, but boasts the highest concentration of organic and biodynamic growers on the right bank, this property included.
Round, rich, and soft, this is a gentleman's red. Fermented in cement tanks and French oak for 12 months, it is a classic Merlot-based blend (90%), with 10% Cabernet Franc adding subtle herbal notes, spiced plum, black olive, and leather on the palate with soft, chewy red licorice and green herbs to finish. If you're a fan of Bordeaux but don't want to drop $50 on a weeknight bottle, this is a fantastic, easy-drinking Bordeaux for any night of the week.
