Wines labeled Montepulciano can be confusing––it is both a village in Tuscany and a grape grown on the eastern coast of Italy. This particular wine is made from the Sangiovese grape from the village of Montepulciano in Tuscany.

Cavalierino is a 100% organic (biologica) estate. Work is all performed manually and the wine is fermented in barrel using all naturally-occurring yeasts; no chemicals or additives are used in the process whatsoever.

The result is pure, natural Sangiovese character: sour cherry, cocoa nib, earth, and red flower aromas with soft, dusty tannins and crunchy, lip-smacking red fruit. This 2012 is drinking so well right now––we recommend opening it ahead of time to allow the flavors to develop. Pair it with roasted chicken with rosemary and oven-dried tomatoes, finished in a peppery Tuscan olive oil for a no-brainer good time.
