Big Basin "Dune and Mountain" Pinot Noir 2018
Pinot Noir｜Monterey County
Another outstanding creation from Big Basin! Bradley Brown, the owner and winemaker, has an incredible talent for crafting rich, heady, yet balanced wines high-elevation sites mainly in California's central coast. Sadly, he lost a great deal of vineyard land and structures in the wildfires of 2020. We love to support our California neighbors, especially such talented vignerons as Bradley. For every bottle sold we will donate to Cal Fire Foundation's S.A.V.E. Program for victims of the blazes.
Sourced from from various high-altitude vineyards in Monterey County, including the famous "Coastview" Vineyard readers may recognize from the mega-popular Nue Wilde Pinot offered recently. This cuvée is an intense, robust manifestation of Monterey Pinot. The combination of ocean-breezy cold nights and warm sun exposure above the fog line results in a wine with bright acid and dark cherry, cassis, and baskets of savory floral notes. This is a tightly wound Pinot, full of stuffing, which will benefit from a few years in bottle to further develop.
Big Basin's Pinots are sometimes referred to as "Burgundian," signifying an Old World subtlety and delicacy in the wines. This "Dune and Mountain" Pinot is a wonderful expression of California terroir viewed through a minimalist lens.
