Andrew Rich Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Willamette Valley, Oregon
Here at Prologue we're picky about our Sauvignon Blanc – we taste literally hundreds a year and very few make the cut, which is why we jumped all over this zippy, expressive, refreshing S.B. from the one and only Andrew Rich!
It overdelivers to the max, with the blend comprised of three amazing vineyards in the Wilamette Valley: Croft, Eola Springs and La Chenaie, all farmed organically, sustainably, and biodynamically. This is very much in the vein of a New Zealand style, but worlds better. Bursting with tropical fruit and zippy acidity that dances on the tongue, it feels almost electric. Guava, passionfruit, jalapeño, cooling mint, Meyer lemon, and a crackling salt-lick finish go on and on...
Andrew Rich has a long, storied, and circuitous career. He had an epiphany while writing about wine for a New York City magazine and decided to set out to learn winemaking in Burgundy, which then led him back to the U.S. to study with the iconoclastic Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon, in Santa Cruz, for five vintages. He was then drawn to the Pacific Northwest where he set up shop under the eponymous Andrew Rich winery, now with over twenty vintages under his belt. Rich's cuvées are a reference point of Pacific Northwest wine excellence and incredible value.
The wine sent chills down our spine paired with two dozen briny, melony-sweet Kumamoto oysters on a recent balmy night. Only $22/bottle and free shipping on six!
