Bodegas Faustino V Rioja Reserva 1964
Based in the Alavesa subregion of Rioja at 1500-1800 feet elevations, Bodegas Faustino V is the largest private owner of vineyards in Rioja. theirs are among the most iconic and classic of any. Established in 1861, their wines were all consumed within their own borders until the late 1950s and early '60s – the 1964 vintage boasts to be among the first to be exported outside of Spain. Descendant Julio Faustino Martinez brought the house to international fame during this era. To this day, their library of Reserva and Gran Reserva wines spans decades an numbers into the millions.
1964 was the undisputed "vintage of the century." At the time there were only 26 bodegas producing wine in Rioja. Think about that – this is one of but a handful of estates who managed to produce wine from a vintage unanimously described as near-perfect and capable of aging for a century or more. Absolutely epic.
