This library release Chardonnay comes direct from Mayacamas's own stone cellars built in 1889, cut from the side of a dormant volcano on Mount Veeder.
132 years of continuous winemaking history at this historic estate, through depressions, world wars, Prohibition, and devastating wildfires. You may also recognize them as one of the victors in the historic 1976 Judgement of Paris Tasting.
This is a time capsule into what an aged Napa Chardonnay is capable of...probably different from most whites you've tasted before. Butterscotch, almond, baked apricot, lemon curd, and earthy mushroom notes await. It's an otherworldly experience, fit for enjoying on its own or go bold with cuisine like brown butter-roasted cod, fried softshell crab, or braised pork shoulder with cannellini beans.
As devout fans of the estate know, their vineyards are organically farmed, with biodynamic influences, under the watchful eye of the esteemed Andy Erickson, superstar winemaker whose résumé includes Harlan and Screaming Eagle, among others. Vines are dry farmed and the wine is raised in a mix of concrete tank and very large, very old barrels, some of which have been in use since the 1920s.
