Dama del Rovere "Durello" Metodo Classico Extra Brut 2012
Dama del Rovere has long been at the top of our list for delish Italian bubbles. Devotees of our “Bubble Club” might recognize the label and recall a really good sparkler in their glass. This is their limited single-vintage 2012 cuvée produced from the very rare Durello varietal, from supremely high altitude vineyards in the Veneto.
Redolent of poached nectarine, lemon blossom, and orange rind with an unmistakable salinity and loads of minerals and spice. Just a lovely and fun little warm-weather sparkler to have by your side whenever the mood strikes!
From the Veneto, the land of Soave and Amarone, Rovere’s Extra Brut is their top-end sparkler from their oldest vines, planted in 1968. Located in some of the highest-elevation vineyards in the entire region, the Pra family’s sustainably-farmed production include masterful Soave, some of the best in the appellation, and a wonderful line of sparkling wine made from the indigenous – and rare – Durello grape. Only a few hectares exist of it worldwide, most of it in its native Veneto, where it’s prized for high levels of acid and lip-smacking peachy qualities which, incidentally, make a great foundation for dry, characterful bubbles. This 2012, made in the “metodo classico” (read: the Champagne method), this wine has all the verve and complexity befitting the labor-intensive process.
Affordable enough to sip on a Wednesday night, impressive enough to wow your friends at the next gathering – and we have some of the only bottles of it in the country. Who could say no to that?!
