El Coto "Coto de Imaz" Rioja Reserva 1994 1.5L Magnum
Sourced entirely from the "Alta" subregion and its famed rocky limestone soils, El Coto de Rioja's "Coto de Imaz" is their flagship bottling. As reflected on the label, records show the ancient monastery of Imaz cultivating grapes and making wine here at least as far back as the 16th century.
Connoisseurs will recognize 1994 as one of the greatest in Rioja history. Decanter describes it as a "splendid year with intense, slow maturing wines." And in magnum the wines are showing better than ever. Lay this down until the 2030s and savor its slow evolution in bottle, or decant now for two hours to get a glimpse of its capability!
Fill level is superb, at top neck and the label, foil, and cork are all in good condition. Don't forget to use a professional wine opener like The Durand with these older wines.
