Carlos Serres Rioja Gran Reserva 1964

Tempranillo|Rioja, Spain

From the "vintage of the century," this rare 1964 from the epic house of Carlos Serres is a must for any serious collector of fan of Spanish wine history.

1964 saw Spain as struggling economically and politically; at the time there were only 26 bodegas producing wine in Rioja. Think about that – this is one of but a handful of estates who managed to produce wine from a vintage unanimously described as near-perfect and capable of aging for a century.

Based in Haro, Rioja, Serres traces its winemaking lineage to 1896, when he began as an export merchant and devoted evangelist for Rioja and its produce. By the turn of the 20th century Serres's wines could be found all over Europe, in the Americas, and was famously one of the most desired drinks in pre-revolutionary Cuba, where ex-pats and Prohibition-evading bon vivants enjoyed the wine in mass amounts.

Fill level base neck. Label, capsule, and cork in good condition. Comes with original retail neck tag. Don't forget to use a professional wine opener like The Durand with these older wines.
