Gérard Gratiot, Brut Rosé Champagne MV (375ML)
Pinot Blend|Champagne, France
The Gratiot family farms their 18 hectares in Charly-sur-Marne sustainably and with care, with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and in winemaking. The chalky, clay-rich soils here produce a fleshier, deeper style of Pinot-forward Champagne, and this half-bottle is a classic example of the well-developed, savory side.
A unique cuvée you won't find anywhere else, showcasing the two Pinots with a generous addition of Chardonnay. The blend is 72% Pinot Meunier, 27% Chardonnay, 1% Pinot Noir, and although it's labeled as a multi-vintage (MV), it's from the 2013 vintage.
Showing savory, dried cherry notes, potpourri, red candies, and a hint of bacon-wrapped fig, this is very much a "food" wine and pairs well with rich cheeses, charcuterie, or duck confit.
If you've ever wondered how sparkling wine develops in bottle, this half-bottle is a great testament to the staying power of great Champagne.
