Hiruzta Brut Nature Sparkling Wine MV
Hondarrabi Zuri｜Txakolina, Spain
An energetic, singular sparkling wine from the glorious El País Vasco – Basque Country – of Spain, as fierce and flavorful as the Basque people themselves. Straddling France and Spain, the region is tattooed with history and significance; everyone from pilgrims on the Way of St. James to empires intent on conquest have traveled this land.
The Hiruzta estate sits at the base of Jaizkebel Mountain, the first peak in the western Pyrenees, towering above a series of walled fortress towns the Basque have defended for centuries.
This is a brut nature – that is, a wine sparkling wine with no added sugar in its dosage, made from the local Hondarrabi Zuri grape, grown only in this region. The fruit and all its bottle-conditioned characteristics shine through, unadulterated and unmasked. Utterly vibrating with energy, the nose is reminiscent of crushed rocks, salty ocean spray, anise, and pineapple. The bubbles glide across the tongue like sun-dappled waves, with lemon-pith intensity and bright stone fruit flavors. No wonder, then, that it's made in the traditional "Champagne method" and aged 14 months before release. Every bit of care that goes into a bottle of Champagne is replicated here with glorious results.
You'd be hard pressed to find a more unique wine from a more distinct pocket of Europe. The Basque language is the only extant Pre-Indo-European language in Western Europe, unrelated to any other living language in the world. The cuisine, based on fruits of the sea and the land alike, is soulful and one-of-a-kind. Its architecture and vibrantly colored architecture is unlike any other. And of course the wines, made from indigenous grapes found nowhere else in the world, are world-class and align perfectly with nearly any cuisine at the dinner table.
If you like soulful, mineral-driven, bright bubbles this is a can't-miss! Free shipping on any bottles site-wide.
