Cantina di Carafoli "L'Onesta" Lambrusco Sorbara MV
Question: What do you do when it's hot outside and want something to go with those grilled sausages or pizza, but don't want to drink a red wine in the sun?
Answer: Red sparkling wine – Lambrusco, that is! Lambrusco is both a grape name and a style of wine from the pastoral hills of Emilia-Romagna, the picturesque region of Italy with a rich and celebrated history of fine cuisine. This Lambrusco is more rosé than red, and just as fun to drink.
You'll find a vivid ruby-red color in the glass and a bounty of pink fruits and flowers on the nose. Sour cherry, hibiscus, raspberry candy, with a delicate, frothy mousse and hints of sweet mountain herbs on the soft finish. The "Sorbara" variety of Lambrusco is considered the higher quality of Lambrusco, with more aromatic character and deeper flavor. Low-abv, loads of flavor, a touch of tannin on the dry, red-fruited finish. Adult soda!
The Carafoli family is run by four brothers today, blessed with priceless land in the village of Ravarino, the heart of Lambrusco country, founded by their grandfather in 1919. Lambrusco is in their blood!
From Parmigiano-Reggiano and balsamico from Modena, to Prosciutto di Parma and a wealth of wines, Emilia-Romagna is a gastronomic paradise. As Eric Asimov of the New York Times writes, "Good Lambrusco is joyous and delicious, and it goes wonderfully with salumi, pork dishes, rich pastas and pizzas."
This ruby-colored, aromatic, rosé style of Lambrusco is joyous indeed, and just the thing for summer fun!
