Nue Wilde "Coastview Vineyard" Pinot Noir 2018
Introducing a new project from one of the Bay Area's most talented indie winemakers. Ben Herod is the owner and winemaker of Nue Wilde, a new label from this esteemed veteran wine professional. He sources from prestigious, heritage vineyards from California, including this stunner from the amazing Coastview vineyard.
Way high up in the Gabilan mountain range at 2400-foot highs in Monterey, the Coastview Vineyard is the source for some of California's most vaunted wines. It's perched literally on top of a mountain peak in the Gabilan mountain range, near Pinnacles National Park. The extreme altitude and wide swings in temperature preserve acidity and freshness, while giving the grapevines a long, gentle ripening over the season. Only a few wineries have access to this tiny vineyard – Big Basin's Coastiew Pinot retails for $60+.
In Herod's deft hands, this is cool-climate Pinot at its absolute best. Crunchy red pomegranate, oodles of silky red flowers, and vibrant red fruit that just shimmers with life and energy. Liquid velvet.
And of course, the wine is completely natural. Grapes are foot trodden, fermented from ambient yeast, and aged in neutral French oak for 11 months before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
A bargain when compared to the few other Coastview Pinots out there, enjoy!
