Ann Albert "Zotovich Vineyard" Chardonnay 2017
Sta. Rita Hills
From the acclaimed Eric Johnson, winemaker at Talley Vineyards for ten years, this boutique project is some of the finest Cali Chardonnay we've tasted in some time. At Talley, he consistently creates some of the most sought-after, mind-blowingly good Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the central coast, and brings that wealth of expertise to his own project here.
Meursault meets California: lemon-poppyseed cake, mineral oil, soft white flowers, hazelnut and green apple skin, with a hint of nuttiness. Think caramel-covered green apples.
Eric and his wife Cait work with three distinct vineyards, all of which range from sustainable to fully biodynamic. Ferments are from native yeast – nothing added, nothing subtracted. Their stated goal is to let beautiful sites like the Zotovich vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills speak for themselves, with the least amount of manipulation possible.
If you love balanced Cali Chardonnay with character and restraint, this is the one for you. If you love white Burgundy, come aboard. Heck, if you love rich Sauvignon Blanc give it a try – you won't be disappointed!
